Romano claims Chelsea will not pay ‘crazy money’ for African star ‘but talks will continue’

Fabrizio Romano has revealed Chelsea will not pay ‘crazy money’ for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea will not pay crazy money to sign Inter Milan star Andre Onana.

The Blues have been linked with a move for the Cameroonian shot-stopper, but Inter are demanding high value for the 27-year-old. The Blues are apparently looking for an adept custodian for the upcoming season.

Onana is seen as one of the top options who is confident between the sticks and offers the option to constantly play out from the back. He is a player who can really make a difference in the backline.

The 27-year-old enjoyed an excellent season, leading his side to the Champions League final in Istanbul, but they fell short against Manchester City and lost 2-1.

However, Chelsea don’t want to spend that much on the former Ajax goalkeeper. The Blues and Milan met in London to also discuss Kalidou Koulibaly and Romelu Lukaku’s plans.

They also discussed Onana’s potential move to the Blues, but the Serie A club is adamant about asking a high price for the goalie. Speaking on his daily exclusive “Caught Offside Substack, the transfer guru claimed:

“Chelsea also asked about Andre Onana, though he will cost a lot of money, so it’s not an easy negotiation. Chelsea don’t want to pay crazy money like £80 million, but talks will continue, so let’s see if there’s an important breakthrough soon.”

If they are really asking £80m for Onana, we would be wise to back off. Although often, a negotiation can be reached to meet at a point which pleases both teams. It is worth mentioning that Mauricio Pochettino has apparently decided to include Kepa Arrizabalaga in his plan for next season, so perhaps this is an expense we can put off for later.

Onana, though, is unquestionably a step above Kepa, and if Inter lower their asking price, we can try to match it because the former Ajax custodian possesses every quality a modern-day custodian ought to have. We still have time to work out a deal, so let’s just hope they reduce his price.
