Brighton & Hove Albion will apparently insist on Levi Colwill transfer with Chelsea this week
Fabrizio Romano has stated that Brighton & Hove Albion will once again insist on signing Levi Colwill this week, despite Chelsea rejecting their opening bid of £30 million.
Due to injury, the centre-back failed to show his calibre under Thomas Tuchel, which led to a loan move for the 20-year-old last August.
He has had a standout season while on loan at Brighton, where he blossomed as a seasoned defender. The English centre-back has returned to Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea aim to keep him for the upcoming campaign.
The Blues are also looking to offer the centre-back a new deal as they gear up for next season under Mauricio Pochettino. Under Roberto De Zerbi, the centre-back participated in 17 Premier League contests and made a strong impression, prompting Brighton to launch a bid for Colwill.
The Blues believe that Kalidou Koulibaly’s departure will make it easier for the young player to agree to a new contract and give him playing time for the upcoming campaign.
To balance the payroll, Chelsea will also be expecting to make a lucrative sale from the departure of unimportant players before June 30. That is highly important, because that can also be a way for us to raise money for signing our transfer targets for the new season.
Given the possibility that the former Napoli defender is close to joining Saudi CLub Al-Hilal, the Blues ought to stick with the 20-year-old for the following campaign. He is fast developing into a very good centre-back who can be developed into a truly world-class player.
Colwill’s value is higher than that, and despite Brighton’s £30 million offer, Chelsea shouldn’t consider selling him, full stop. Unless, of course, Brighton make an astonishingly high offer but that will be unlikely simply because Chelsea will want to believe Colwill is valued at what he can become in the future, while the Seagulls would focus more on what he is in the present.

We don’t know which defender can leave in the summer window, so keeping Colwill should be a necessity. He can be our very own Virgil van Dijk if we manage his development carefully. Even a loan move shouldn’t be entertained unless we sign at least one truly world-class centre-back who stays fit and in our lineup every single week.
