Chelsea and Inter Milan to hold talks regarding two Stamford Bridge stars

Chelsea to hold talks with Inter Milan over the futures of Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

According to The Evening Standard, Chelsea will meet Inter Milan in London to decide the futures of Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as we head into the summer transfer window.

Both strikers’ futures at Chelsea seem to be coming to an end ahead of the 2023/24 season. Lukaku wants to continue playing for Inter, while Aubameyang is keen to quit Stamford Bridge in the summer window.

Both Aubameyang and Lukaku have largely failed to make a worthwhile contribution in Blue. Given that we need a prolific goal scorer, neither player appears to be up to the task.

While the Gabonese striker has only scored one goal since joining West Londoners the previous summer, the Belgian attacker who joined them in 2021–22 was unsuccessful in making a statement and was sent on loan to Inter for the entire season.

The 29-year-old striker’s £325,000 weekly salary is a challenge for Inter, who are reluctant to shell out the big bucks. The Belgian striker could return for another Inter on loan at this point, given the Serie A club’s economic challenges don’t prevent them from finalising the switch.

Several European clubs, including AC Milan, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Besiktas, and Los Angeles FC, are interested in signing Aubameyang. The 33-year-old has also attracted interest from Saudi clubs such as Al Nassr, Al Ittihad, Al-Hillal, and Al Ahli

Given that Lukaku wants to play for Inter, keeping a player who is more inclined to play for another club doesn’t make sense. Selling him will also free up salary cap and also give us a chance to reinvest into the playing squad.

The fact that Aubameyang has only scored once in the Premier League and that his playing days at the top level are winding down. At 33, he is far from young and will only regress with time.

Selling them both would be a smart move because it would drastically lower the club’s wages and allow us to hire a new striker.
