Mauricio Pochettino wants Argentina international at Chelsea; player open to move

Mauricio Pochettino wants to sign Lautaro Martinez who is open to a Chelsea move

As per Football Insider (h/t Evening Standard), Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino wants to bring Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez to the club during the summer window.

The report reveals that the Argentina international will be open to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer. A deal of £60m could be enough to prize him away from Inter.

The 2023 Champions League runners-up though, are not in favour of selling one of their key assets. Martinez was one of the main reasons they went deep in Europe and won a domestic cup double.

The 25-year-old scored 28 goals and assisted 11 in 56 appearances in all competitions for the Nerazzurri during the recently-concluded 2022/23 campaign.

Since Diego Costa left Chelsea more than five years ago now, the club haven’t had a striker who can comfortably cross the 20-goal mark every season. A lot of money was spent on getting the likes of Alvaro Morata, former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku and more, but nothing has worked so far.

Martinez is an agile striker who will score goals, work hard off the ball, get stuck in duels and take up different positions in the build-up to cause headaches to the opposition centre-backs.

Being from the same nation and probably having watched the player grow in the last few years, it makes sense why Pochettino is interested in signing him.

The best thing about Martinez is that he is versatile as well. He would not only give a guarantee of goals up front, but his flexibility may also allow the Chelsea boss to use him in different ways. All this points towards an urge that the Blues must do everything they can to sign the Argentine this summer.
