Bayern Munich among clubs chasing experienced Chelsea defender

Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly is a subject of interest from Bayern Munich and Inter Milan

As per transfer journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (via wettfreunde.net, h/t Football.London), European giants Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are interested in signing Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegal international has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge even after just one season at the club. It is understood that new boss Mauricio Pochettino may opt for playing younger players in his central defensive position.

After joining from Napoli last summer, Koulibaly struggled for consistency and adaptation in his performances. That trend became a regularity even following a decent outing in the World Cup.

Di Marzio states that Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel wanted the 31-year-old at Chelsea. Hence, he was signed by the Blues when the German was in charge at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Inter also have him on their books, but the high wage range may mean that only the German champions can afford to sign him.

Although Bayern won Bundesliga this time around as well, it was not because they were special or anything. Borussia Dortmund basically handed them the title by bottling it on the final day.

The six-time Champions League winners were defensively found out in that competition when Manchester City ripped them apart in the quarter-final.

Hence, one can understand why they are interested in getting Koulibaly, who is still a great player despite having one stuttering year at Chelsea.

If Pochettino is not interested in playing him, the best thing for the Blues would be to sell the 31-year-old. They could anyway do with some cash from player sales that can be used to potentially make key additions to the squad through the transfer market. Will Koulibaly want to leave after a year? He may have no choice if the manager does not want him.
