Arsenal interested in signing Chelsea forward if they lower price tag

Arsenal are interested in signing Kai Havertz provided Chelsea lower their asking price

As per the Telegraph (subscription required), Arsenal are monitoring the situation of Chelsea forward Kai Havertz and would be interested in signing him if the asking price is lowered.

The report reveals that Havertz has attracted the attention of Real Madrid as well, but the fact that Chelsea have put a price tag of £70m is putting off bidders.

The German international’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). He has no desire to sign a new deal with the Blues. The interested parties feel that might force Chelsea to drive down the asking price.

Since arriving in the summer of 2020, Havertz’s time at the club has been inconsistent in terms of performance. His name is etched in the history books for scoring the winner in the 2021 Champions League Final though.

If we look at the 2022/23 season numbers, the 23-year-old scored only nine goals in 47 appearances in all competitions. For a player who was the team’s number nine in most games, those returns are below the standards required.

Now, Havertz can still do a great job if asked to play behind a centre-forward because he is good at finding pockets of spaces and hurting opposition teams with subtle touches in and around the box.

But, Chelsea are due to welcome Christopher Nkunku this summer, a player who can do exactly what was explained in the paragraph above. The Frenchman had a better goal-scoring rate at RB Leipzig as well.

So, it will make sense for the Blues to sell Havertz in the transfer window. They should lower the asking price by a bit and accept the bid from either Real Madrid or Arsenal.
