“Love at first sight”- Two experienced defenders drop hints about their future at Chelsea

Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly open up about their futures at Chelsea

As the Blues are expected to sell numerous marginal players, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly have shed light on their respective futures at Chelsea.

Silva and Koulibaly have both been linked with moves elsewhere for next season, and the Blues might sell 10 players to reduce their bloated squad and make some money for new acquisitions.

The former Napoli defender has been listed as one of the ten players who can leave the club, after failing to live up to expectations.

Meanwhile, the former AC Milan defender inked a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2024, although according to rumours, he may leave in the summer to join his boyhood club in Brazil.

And speaking before the season’s last match against Newcastle United, (h/t Metro) the 38-year-old said:

“Me and Chelsea fans… It was love at first sight. I feel really happy here. I’m really proud to be at Chelsea. Obviously, this year didn’t go well at all, but all we can do is hope for better next season.’’

On the other hand, Koulibaly has strived to make himself comfortable at Chelsea and claimed the club has yet to see the best version of him. He said:

‘’It is true that it was a difficult season. For me, it was a very hard welcome because to come to the Premier League and have a season like this was not what I was thinking about, but football is like this, and life is like this. I hope next year we are going to see a better version of Chelsea and a better version of me to help the team and to win something next year.’’

Chelsea should keep Silva for another season because of what he brings to the table. The 38-year-old, whenever fit and available, is exceptional on the pitch and has been our most consistent defender in recent seasons.

He should be kept for at least another season to guide our young defenders. For Koulibaly, a poor debut season in the Premier League isn’t the end of the world for him – many players go through that and then pick up pace from their second season onwards.

More Chelsea News:

But if the two defenders depart, we won’t be without quality options. Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah will be ready to prove their credentials under Pochettino – although Koulibaly and Silva’s potential departures would undoubtedly make fans desperate for a big-name addition in defence who has experience and can lead the line well – something like Virgil van Dijk does at Liverpool.
