Journalist gives update on Neymar’s transfer situation, claims Chelsea held talks with PSG over transfer

PSG Transfer News: Journo says only Premier League can afford Chelsea target Neymar Jr.

ESPN journalist Julien Laurens has given an update on Neymar Jr.’s situation at Chelsea while confirming that Blues owner Todd Boehly held talks with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the past over a potential transfer.

He told Sky Sports News:

“PSG tried to sell Neymar last summer and they will try to sell him again this summer. We know that Todd Boehly has spoken to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi a few times to talk about Neymar and the possibility to bring him to Chelsea.

“I don’t know if this is still possible given Neymar is still recovering from ankle surgery and he has a huge contract at PSG which has four years left on it. “The only thing we know right now is that only the Premier League can afford Neymar.”

Neymar has been sidelined with a long-term ankle injury that has effectively ruled him out for the remainder of the campaign. Injuries have been a big factor in the Brazil international not fulfilling the heights he was expected to fulfil.

No need for Neymar at Chelsea

Of course, for many, he is already a living legend but with his talent, he should have been regularly challenging Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for the Ballon d’Or.

There is no hiding that Neymar will be an expensive buy in every sense of the word. He is a world-class playmaker who has a little over four years left on his deal at the Parc des Princes. When fit, there is hardly anyone better.

There is no need to bring a potentially expensive, injury-prone player in his 30s to Stamford Bridge. We have already invested a lot of money in players such as Enzo Fernandez, Noni Madueke and Mykhaylo Mudryk.

It is better to work with what we have right now. Firstly, the new manager, whoever they are, must clear out the squad and rid us of deadwood. Secondly, any new signings should be financially smart that strengthen the team in the present and the future. Neymar just seems like a needless luxury for a team that needs to sort a lot of things out.
