“I get the feeling”- Frank Lampard gives his opinion on Enzo Fernandez’s strongest position for Chelsea

Frank Lampard claims Enzo Fernandez is a versatile midfielder who can play a more advanced role

Enzo Fernandez, according to Frank Lampard, is a flexible midfielder who can play everywhere in the midfield.

Fernandez was one of Chelsea’s best signings during the January transfer window, with the Blues breaking the British transfer record to capture the World Cup winner.

And, despite the club’s terrible record, the 22-year-old has appeared in every match since his arrival and played a crucial role.

However, N’Golo Kante’s injury has forced the former Benfica midfielder to play as a number six, limiting his creativity on the field. The Blues, on the other hand, believe that an efficient defensive midfielder will allow Fernandez to flourish further up the pitch.

And Lampard also has the same opinion, (h/t Metro) as he said before the game against Manchester United in a press conference:

‘’My personal view with Enzo is that he can probably play in all the midfield roles, but seeing him train and play, I get the feeling from him that he has more to offer than as a single No. 6. He can play as a double No. 6 or as a No. 8, where he can join into the game more.”

Enzo appears to be more of a number eight because he can be creative while also defending effectively, yet we haven’t had a proper defensive midfielder this season, so Fernandez’s creativity has been restricted.

If we are able to acquire Declan Rice or Moises Caicedo, the 22-year-old will be positioned higher up the pitch and have greater freedom to roam around. We’ve seen how good he is with the ball and how he switches the game with his pinpoint long balls.

More Chelsea News:

He is one of the few things our club have done right under the new ownership. He may not have been a cheap acquisition but he is young and has the minerals to be the world’s best some day. A few years down the line, some could even remember this coup as one of the best pieces of business in the club’s history.
