Chelsea plan to hire 41-year-old transfer expert who has worked at Tottenham in the past

Chelsea consider hiring former Tottenham Hotspur man Paul Mitchell as their transfer expert

Chelsea are planning to bring transfer consultant Paul Mitchell as they look to reduce their oversized roster for the upcoming season, (h/t Football.London) according to the Daily Mail.

Todd Boehly will want to sell some of Chelsea’s peripheral players to raise funds as the Blues will need to strengthen a few areas despite having a bloated squad of 30 players.

Chelsea have spent about £600 million in only two transfer windows since taking over from Boehly. The Blues are mired in the bottom half of the Premier League, and several of the new additions have displayed underwhelming performances.

The team is also without a permanent manager, with Frank Lampard serving as the club’s temporary manager as West Londoners search for the appropriate manager.

Mauricio Pochettino, the former manager of Tottenham Hotspur, is a candidate to take over as Chelsea’s manager for the upcoming campaign. And he wants to bring a few of his backroom staff from Spurs.

Mitchell, 41, is one of them, and the Blues are counting on the former Southampton transfer guru to aid the team in locating excellent players.

Mitchell has worked as a transfer specialist for many Premier League and European teams, including Monaco, RB Leipzig, and also with Pochettino at Spurs and Southampton. He joined the Lilywhites in 2014 and worked there for a couple of years, playing a role in the signings of Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Kieran Trippier, among other players.

Meanwhile, most of our signings to date have been indecisive and we need to be prudent with the signings in the summer window. Hopefully, Mitchell, if hired, can bring his transfer expertise here and help us not only in signing suitable players, but offloading ones that we don’t need.

It remains to be seen what happens with this story. It seems that the transition under Todd Boehly is still going on. We must stabilise our backroom staff before the start of next season so that this current campaign doesn’t seem like a sacrifice that went to waste.
