As per Evening Standard, Chelsea are among the big Premier League clubs that are scouting the young Gent striker Gift Orban. Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also keeping an eye on him.
Gent are in no rush to sell the player after signing him from Norwegian club Stabaek in the January window itself. They would only bulge if a hefty offer comes.
Orban has scored 19 goals in 19 games in all competitions since moving to Belgium at the turn of the year. The scoring rate is just phenomenal.
The 20-year-old is also happy staying at Gent and developing his game further before making a move to a bigger club in Europe (with all due respect to Gent).
Apart from the aforementioned Premier League clubs, several clubs in Europe are also interested in the Nigerian who played both legs of the Conference League quarter-final tie against West Ham United. The Hammers won that tie.
So, as much as it sounds exciting, any club, including Chelsea, may not get a chance to sign Orban this summer. What they can do is continue scouting him though and see where he is at in two years’ time.
The Blues cannot wait till then for a striker. The club must sign one in the coming summer window. Having seen how bad the situation goal scoring-wise, they need a number nine who can score 20-25 goals per season consistently.
A few days ago, Guardian reported that Chelsea are eyeing an ambitious swoop for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. With no European football to offer, can they attract the Serie A winner to come in?
Perhaps, the incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino may have a word or two to convince the player about the future project and potential successes.
