Ally McCoist claims Victor Osimhen reminds him of Chelsea striker Didier Drogba

Ally McCoist compared Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to Chelsea star Didier Drogba while praising the latter’s attributes. Osimhen has been a revelation this season, as he helped Napoli win their first Serie A title since 1990.

In 29 Serie A appearances, the 24-year-old prolific scorer has scored 23 goals. Additionally, his stellar performances have drawn interest from various European teams, with Chelsea showing the most interest.

And incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino is also interested in bringing the former Wolfsburg striker in for next season. This season, Chelsea have continued to perform poorly in front of goal. They believe Osimhen might be the quality striker they need to turn things around.

They are currently languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table and have three games to play before the season comes to an end.

And McCoist seems to be a fan of Osimhen, and he feels the Nigerian striker reminds him of Drogba, as he said to TalkSport:

“He’s the only striker I’ve seen in the last 10 years that reminds a little of Didier Drogba. He’s not Drogba yet, but there is definitely a player in there.”

McCoist is free to hold that opinion, but it is too soon to claim that Osimhen is similar to Drogba. Although the two players share certain attributes, the Ivorian striker was a complete player for us who was deadly in front of goal and proved to be difficult to mark for defenders.

He has left a void at Chelsea that only Diego Costa has been able to fill, and that too for only a brief period. Comparisons can be made all day – the real deal would be when we get to see Osimhen in England, against some of the world’s finest teams.

The Nigerian is a phenomenal striker, but he is only 24 and has a long way to go before he can be considered one of the all-time great strikers in football. Chelsea can, of course, provide him the pedestal to do that.

More Chelsea News:

Let us hope we have an offer ready and that the striker is willing to join us despite the lack of European football next season. It won’t be a bad idea to get Drogba to pull at his heartstrings too, given Osimhen has himself admitted that the Ivorian is his idol.
