“It still hurts”- Bayern Munich’s Thomas Tuchel recalls being sacked by Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel admits that the Chelsea sacking still hurts him

New Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted that the Chelsea sacking he faced earlier this season still hurts him.

After a sluggish start to the season following an underwhelming pre-season, Chelsea parted ways with Tuchel on September 7 and appointed Graham Potter a day later.

The German’s time at Stamford Bridge was successful, where he won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.

Here’s what Tuchel said about the ruthlessness with which he was sacked by the Chelsea board (h/t BBC):

“It was a shock. I felt it, strangely, when I drove to the training centre. The meeting we had felt unusual – it turned out to be very short. It lasted three to five minutes.

“We had a feeling that we were in the right spot at the right time. We felt that we could achieve big things and we wanted to stay longer – it was as simple as that. It still hurts in a way.”

It is good to see the German back in a managerial seat. He is going to take over the tough job of having to win the league and the Champions League for Bayern.

Was it the right decision to sack Tuchel just after a month into the season? We would never know the answer to that now. But, we can say that the performances under Potter haven’t been great either.

Tuchel is now the manager of Bayern Munich.

So, instead of putting a new manager under stress, it might have been better to continue with the existing one and back him to turn the form around.

It is all in the past now though. The nature of the sacking of Tuchel got was indeed sad for many people (speaking from consensus). We wish him all the best for the Bayern job. There is a chance we meet him in the semi-final of the Champions League this season.

For that to happen, Potter has to prepare his team for a tough tie against the European champions Real Madrid. Before that, three key league games are to be entertained. Although the top-four hopes are slim, the prospect of winning the league games to keep the momentum alive for the European tie is there.
