Lampard hints at bringing Chelsea star back from the cold vs Brighton

Frank Lampard hints at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starting for Chelsea vs Brighton & Hove Albion

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard has hinted at Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang starting ahead of the match against Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Blues will take on the Seagulls on Saturday (15 April) at home. Under former head coach Graham Potter, the Gabon national had lost his place in the team. However, the 33-year-old returned to action in the 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Speaking to the media via the Evening Standard, Lampard feels that the players need to prove their worth in training. However, the gaffer has no doubts about Aubameyang’s qualities.

“Auba is a bit like everyone in the squad, starting before or not starting so much, everyone needs to compete in training and show they’re worthy of their place. History says he has a fantastic goalscoring record. So, we’ll see.

The 33-year-old signed for the Stamford Bridge side in the summer of 2022 from Barcelona. Unfortunately, things have not gone as planned for the veteran striker.

Over the last few months, the Gabon national has experienced the same struggles he had during his final season at Arsenal. The forward also seemingly had a falling out with Potter.

Aubameyang established himself as a quality player at Borussia Dortmund before the Gunners came knocking. For the North London club, the 33-year-old was their talisman for a few years before losing his touch.

Subsequently, in January 2022, the Gabonese joined Barcelona. At the Camp Nou side, the striker managed to find his feet once again, which prompted Chelsea to acquire the forward’s services. But he has only scored three goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Stamford Bridge side this term.

In the current campaign, the Blues have had a hard time finding the back of the net on a consistent basis. The likes of Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling and the other forwards in the team are not natural goal-scorers.

On the other hand, Aubameyang is. Therefore, it would be helpful for the remainder of Chelsea’s seasons if Lampard could get the 33-year-old firing once again.
