Frank Lampard old on struggling Chelsea star despite recent drop off in form

Frank Lampard convinced Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount is a “top player”

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard is convinced that England international and the Blues’ academy graduate Mason Mount is a “top player”.

At the moment, the midfielder’s future at the Stamford Bridge side is seemingly uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. However, the West London club’s gaffer is full of praise for the 24-year-old.

Speaking via Editor-in-Chief of Vavel Noah Robson (h/t Fabrizio Romano on Twitter), Lampard made his feelings clear on Mount. The interim manager has no doubts about the playmaker’s qualities.

“Mason Mount is already a top player. He’s hungry since the first day. If anyone thinks Mount is not already a top-level player then I’m not sure what they’re seeing. You can ask Tuchel, Southgate, Potter – it’s clear that he’s a top player.”

The 24-year-old made his way through the youth teams at Chelsea. Subsequently, the midfielder spent a few seasons out on loan before breaking into the Blues’ first team.

It was the England international’s spell under Lampard at Derby County that caught a lot of people’s attention. Then, when the 44-year-old was handed the reins at the Stamford Bridge side during the summer of 2019, the gaffer put his faith in the academy graduate.

Mount became a pivotal player for the West London club during the ex-midfielder’s first spell in charge. Since then, the 24-year-old has been ever-present in our senior squad.

Mason Mount thrived under Frank Lampard at Chelsea previously.

In the previous two campaigns, the England international was one of our best players. Under Tuchel, the playmaker helped Chelsea lift the Champions League in the 2020/21 campaign.

Unfortunately, Mount has found life difficult at the Blues this season. In the last few weeks of Graham Potter’s term as the Stamford Bridge side’s manager, the midfielder had lost his place in the team.

Hopefully, with Lampard back, the 24-year-old will be able to find his feet once again. The England international has immense quality and potential and it would be remiss of Chelsea to part ways with him next summer.
