Report: Chelsea players’ opinion on potential Mauricio Pochettino appointment

Mauricio Pochettino is now on track to become the next Chelsea manager and Blues players are on board with the idea

According to the Telegraph (subscription required), Chelsea players would be pleased if the Blues hire Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager for the upcoming campaign. That is despite the fact that he once managed Tottenham Hotspur – although that would be a very childish reason to hold any grudges against him

The negotiations between the club and Pochettino are moving in the right direction, and the former Paris Saint-Germain manager is now likely to lead Chelsea next season.

With Julian Nagelsmann’s exclusion as a prospective Chelsea manager, the former Tottenham Hotspur head coach became the favourite to lead Chelsea next season.

After Graham Potter was fired on April 2, the former Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur manager’s name continued to be linked with the position, and co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart have conducted a careful investigation.

Since being fired by PSG last summer —despite having guided them to the Ligue 1 championship the season before—Pochettino has been without a team.

While at Tottenham, he was unable to win any titles but cemented his reputation by taking a mediocre team to the Champions League final and often finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

With scant financial resources, the former Argentina international turned Tottenham into a local and European powerhouse but was subsequently sacked after a poor run at Spurs.

And when he is hired, his first task will be to trim down the overflowing Blues’ squad. The club has 30 players, and it is believed that a few may be traded this summer.

When the team is content with the head coach, they are more likely to listen to him and follow his instructions. They will view Pochettino as the manager who can make this team competitive.

Chelsea also have a sufficient number of attacking players, which is advantageous for the team since Pochettino prefers playing high-pressing, attacking football. As a result, we have young players who might develop into prolific goal-scorers under the Argentine manager, just as he assisted Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in becoming devastating goal-scorers.

More Chelsea News:

It isn’t said who or how many Chelsea players will be pleased with Poch’s appointment but it could mean that there is a general agreement in the club’s dressing room that the 51-year-old is the right hire. That is what matters at this stage.
