Chelsea hold first official talks with managerial candidate Julian Nagelsmann

According to the Times, Chelsea have held first official talks with Julian Nagelsmann, who is one of the candidates to take over the Blues job in the summer.

Among the other contenders are Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Napoli boss Luciano Spaletti and Sporting manager Ruben Amorim.

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors – Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, are leading the process of appointing a permanent manager in the coming weeks.

It is all because the Blues sacked Graham Potter two weeks ago after a run of underwhelming results. Frank Lampard was hired on an interim basis to buy time for the permanent appointment.

On Thursday, the Chelsea hierarchy had a meeting with the former Bayern Munich boss Nagelsmann. There have been calls with other candidates as well, but no name jumping out to them at the moment. Once that happens, Winstanley and Stewart will take them to the co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali for the final decision.

While Nagelsmann would rather take the Blues job than the one at Tottenham Hotspur if only these two are offered to him, he has an eye for a potential Real Madrid role in the summer and Paris-Saint Germain may look for a new boss at the end of this season.

So, if Chelsea are convinced by the 35-year-old, they must accelerate the process and get him in advanced talks about how the position would look like for him at Stamford Bridge.

Moreover, the club under Lampard is meandering along with defeats coming at ease. By announcing the new manager, the players might get compelled to perform better to show that they can be part of the plans under the new management.
