Chelsea increasingly confident of tying 24-year-old Bayern Munich target to new contract

Chelsea increasingly confident that Mason Mount will accept a new contract amidst interest from Bayern Munich and Liverpool

Speaking to GiveMeSport (h/t The Express), Simon Phillips has revealed that Chelsea appear to be growing in confidence that star midfielder Mason Mount will commit his future to the club.

The Englishman’s deal at Stamford Bridge expires in the summer of 2024 and he is increasingly being linked with a summer exit. Liverpool, Manchester United and Bayern Munich have all been touted as potential destinations for the 24-year-old.

Chelsea are keen to retain the player but have seen negotiations hit a dead end over the past few months. This does not appear to have deterred owner, Todd Boehly who is ready to submit a fresh bid.

Speaking on the issue, Phillips remarked that for the moment, the club’s attention is focused on the on-field commitments. However, they will sooner or later get back to discussions with Mount and remain hopeful that an agreement can be reached.

“The talks will come and Chelsea are feeling a little bit more optimistic that the new set of terms that they’re going to put on the table will hopefully be accepted by Mason Mount.”

Todd Boehly is ready to make a fresh offer for Mount and it remains to be seen if the Englishman will sign it. Chelsea have been on a downward spiral of late despite serious investment and losing a player of Mount’s ability will also hurt us.

Mason Mount has thrived under Frank Lampard

Mount made a name for himself at the senior level, initially at Derby County under Frank Lampard. He continues a similar trend under the latter at Stamford Bridge before seeing his form fall off a cliff in recent times.

With Lampard back at the club, it remains to be seen if he can change Mount’s mind. The Blues legend knows what it means to don the Blue jersey and will hopefully remind Mount of the same.
