Liverpool could hand Chelsea the initiative in their pursuit of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol

Liverpool have now given Chelsea a big boost in their pursuit of Josko Gvardiol. The RB Leipzig centre-back was extensively linked to a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer, but the deal fell through for various reasons.

And according to the Daily Mail (h/t Football.London), clubs are gradually withdrawing from their commitments to sign him, including Liverpool. The Blues think that the 21-year-old might make a great addition and can seize the initiative to land their man.

According to rumours, the west Londoners have long admired the teenager and have followed his progress since he began playing for Dinamo Zagreb.

However, his value has increased as a result of his impressive World Cup showing, the centre-back won’t come cheap if Chelsea wants to sign him. Also, its estimated cost is in the neighbourhood of £89 million (€100 million).

Retaining Gvardiol could be challenging for Leipzig because demand regarding him only intensified after he impressed for Croatia at the World Cup. Meanwhile, the Reds are eyeing transfers for Mason Mount, Matheus Nunes, and Jude Bellingham in a midfield revamp next summer.

According to reports, Jürgen Klopp is ready to expand his midfield alternatives since Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita are starting to appear unnecessary.

Gvardiol would undoubtedly be a great addition given that he has established himself at the top level of competition, but if we negotiate.

And we can get him for less than £89 million, or it won’t be a significant addition considering that our backline is currently stocked with talented young centre-backs.With the likes of Wesley Fofana, Benoît Badiashile, and veteran centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

However, we need to add depth to our back-line considering Thiago Silva is 38, the former Napoli defender’s future is uncertain, and he may be traded next summer, necessitating the need for an experienced centre-back.

More Chelsea News:

Gvardiol seems like the ideal defender, and there aren’t many teams interested in buying him. Hopefully that is all the encouragement we need to get the deal over the line.
