“Very good”- Marc Cucurella is a fan of Chelsea January signing

Marc Cucurella was very impressed by Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez at the World Cup in Qatar

Marc Cucurella was unaware of where Chelsea new signing Enzo Fernandez played and had to search on his phone after watching the latter’s performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Fernandez was one of the top players during the World Cup, helping Argentina to a third crown.

After coming off the bench in the tournament opener against Saudi Arabia, Fernandez steadily emerged as an undroppable first XI star in the subsequent games. The 22-year-old went on to win the young player of the tournament award.

And several European powerhouses were drawn to his performances, Chelsea moved quickly to make Fernandez the most expensive signing in Premier League history at £106.8 million.

Cucurella was watching the World Cup to see his former Brighton teammate Alexis Mac Allister but was left astonished by Fernandez’s performance. He wasn’t familiar with the former Benfica player then but we daresay he is up to speed now..

The left-back explained to ESPN Sports Centre how he encountered the midfielder, (h/t Metro) while watching Argentina play.

“I liked to watch matches in which my friends were playing, so I was watching Argentina because of Alexis,”

‘ I think I said, “I really like number 24; he’s very good!” But I didn’t even know where he played! I had to go and search on my phone!

“As I watched more games, I told my family and friends that I really liked him a lot.” And then he came to Chelsea!

Who would have guessed they would both become teammates? His addition has undoubtedly been a blessing since it has greatly improved Chelsea’s midfield.

Since he is young, he established his dominance quickly and is currently the midfield’s beating heart for the Blues. Despite Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday, he was again in the spotlight.

With an average of 10.6 passes in every game, the 22-year-old has executed the most advanced passes per 90 minutes. The opening goal for Chelsea against E4verton at the weekend came from his progressive pass to Ben Chilwell, who then found Joao Felix. Fernandez is flourishing in the Premier League, and we hope he can keep up this pace for years to come.
