Chelsea and Newcastle United eyeing summer deal for Barcelona winger

Chelsea and Newcastle United are eyeing up a move for Barcelona winger Raphinha

According to Daily Mail, Chelsea and Newcastle United are eyeing up a move for Barcelona winger Raphinha in the upcoming 2023 summer transfer window.

Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Daily Mail) has revealed that the La Liga leaders will have to sell some players in the summer to ease their financial issues. Xavi’s men think Raphinha could be one of the players sold.

The former Leeds United winger was in Chelsea’s sight last summer and had personal terms agreed upon around the latter part of June. A few days later, Barcelona came in and swooped the player.

With the Spanish giants struggling financially, it is time that the Blues take revenge and buy the player from them in the coming summer.

The Brazil international has been in great form this season, scoring nine goals and assisting nine in 37 appearances in all competitions. He has scored the winners in Barcelona’s last two 1-0 wins in the league against Valencia and Athletic Bilbao. So, he is not scoring goals, but helping the team gain points with them.

The 26-year-old had a very good World Cup with the national team too. So, he is currently in a fantastic vein of form and is in the peak years of his career as a forward.

Despite spending big in the last two transfer windows, Chelsea could do by signing a striker and a left-footed winger. Hakim Ziyech is more or less guaranteed to leave the club in the summer.

That is where the possibility to get Raphinha comes into mind. The former Leeds player is very direct on the ball, can dribble past people at will and generally makes a good decision in the final third.
