“At the far post”- Pundit criticises three Chelsea players for West Ham equaliser

Three Chelsea players criticised for West Ham United goal as Chelsea held to 1-1 draw

It was another day for Graham Potter’s side, who once again failed to earn three points as their side held West Ham United to a 1-1 draw.

The Blues were in complete control of the game and Chelsea signings showed their value on the pitch, as Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix turned the tide around. The reason Chelsea spent money on them was evident when the Argentine flicked a cross which found Felix in the box, who placed the ball in the net.

While Noni Madueke created a threat on the right flank, Mykhaylo Mudryk also had his moments with his pace and ability to force defenders from their positions.

Silva was once again Chelsea's best defender against West Ham.

However, Chelsea’s danger only persisted for an hour, as Hammer got back into the game when Emerson Palmieri sneaked behind Reece James and Thiago Silva to convert Jarrod Bowen’s header into the net, while Marc Cucurella should have done better to stop Chelsea’s cross.

the goal led to Cucurella, Silva, and James have come under fire for not being vigilant enough to stop the Hammers from scoring.

Cole believed all three of the players could have done more to stop them from scoring goals, as he said in an interview with BT Sport (via Express.UK):

“It shows you when you’re in the ascendancy you’ve got to score goals, and West Ham got back into it. It’s a good goal from West Ham, but bad defending. First of all, Coufal just delivers it—that’s too much space—then, at the far post, Reece James and Thiago Silva just switch off.

Emerson comes in and scuffs it, but Cucurella has got to say to [Mykhaylo] Mudryk: ‘You get there; if you don’t get there, I’ve got to get there; and if I’m not there, then I’ve got to retreat into that space and deal with Bowen.”

The Blues could have prevented that goal if James had remained diligent as Emerson pounced on the ball from behind, but instead, we were forced to settle for yet another disappointing stalemate.

However, the Var should have checked a clear handball by Tomas Soucek in the second half in the box, which would have resulted in a penalty and could have given us the lead.

However, we gave a strong performance, and it seemed like we got along well with each other. Now that the game is over, let’s hope we embark on a winning streak, considering the clock is running out to salvage the season.
