“Long way to go”- Graham Potter provides injury update on Chelsea midfielder

N’Golo Kante was seen training with Chelsea but his return remains uncertain

N’Golo Kante has missed the majority of the season due to a hamstring injury, but the player was seen training with his teammates.

On Tuesday, the Frenchman was seen returning to training, although it was said that it was reduced work and that it would still take some time until he was completely fit again.

And Graham Potter hasn’t had the services of Kante as the player was injured under former manager Thomas Tuchel, who was subsequently sacked.

In addition to missing the World Cup due to surgery, the France international’s history of injury issues also hampered contract renewal discussions.

However, now N’Golo Kanté and Chelsea are nearly at an agreement on a new contract, and the midfielder is expected to enhance the team’s performance when he recovers from a protracted hamstring injury.

Paris Saint-Germain were suggested as a potential destination for the 31-year-old. However, Chelsea now sees Kanté as the club’s ultimate essential player and believes he will work well alongside Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea will now face Tottenham Hotspur in their next match on Sunday at lunchtime at Hotspur Stadium in the hope of getting a positive result. And speaking to the press Graham Potter (h/t Football.London), gave an injury update on the French midfielder’s injury update as he said:

“N’Golo did his first couple of days of training on his own, but there is still a long, long way to go.”

The former Leicester City midfielder is crucial to us because of his boundless energy and his tendency to gallop all over the field. And once Kante returns from injury, he can bring so much to the table from assisting with ball recovery and distribution which will allow Fernandez to have an offensive impact on the game.

His absence has had a significant impact on our midfield. One can even suggest that it forced us to sign a midfielder in the January transfer window. But we’re hoping the 31-year-old will recover from his injury and help us return to our winning ways.

Our success under Antonio Conte, Thomas Tuchel and Frank Lampard was built on the legs of the Frenchman. He may not be the force he was previously, but he still has a lot to offer. Given his age, he brings vital experience in a team full of youngsters.
