Chelsea eye 63-year-old Serie A manager as potential Graham Potter replacement

Chelsea eye Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti as a potential replacement for Graham Potter

According to Calciomercatoweb (h/t Football.London), Chelsea eye Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti as a potential replacement for under-pressure Graham Potter.

Following the defeat at home to relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday, the pressure has been ramped up on Potter to turn the fortunes around quickly

It is two wins in the last 14 league games for the Blues, which is simply not good enough. They have only scored six goals in 11 games since the World Cup.

Despite all that, the Telegraph reported a few days ago that the Chelsea owners have no intention to sack Potter. they believe he should be given a pre-season with the current squad before judging the results. Potter arrived from Brighton when this season was up and running.

Irrespective of the backing, it does feel like the former Swansea City boss is running on thin ice. A defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday could aggravate the pressure to a different level.

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has claimed that it could be Potter’s last game as a Chelsea boss if he manages to lose to Spurs at the weekend. Many Blues fans may concur with that.

Right now, we are 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham and trailing the last-16 tie of the Champions League to Borussia Dortmund. The next few games are important for Potter and his initial legacy at Stamford Bridge.

If we look at what his potential replacement Spalletti is doing at Napoli, it is chalk and cheese. The 63-year-old has built a machine in Naples that is churning wins out at will in the league and the Champions League. They are set to lift the Scudetto and would go far in Europe as well.
