Chelsea News: 22-year-old Blues loanee will decide on his future this summer

Loaned out Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi to decide his future in the summer

According to The Athletic (subscription required), loaned-out Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, who is currently playing for Bayer Leverkusen, will decide on his future in the summer.

At the end of the preceding summer window, the Chelsea academy product decided to move to Leverkusen on a season-long loan deal.

So far in his time in Germany, Hudson-Odoi has made 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring a goal and assisting one (Transfermarkt). He has rejected a move to that country before when Bayern Munich came calling in 2019.

The 22-year-old signed a new contract more than three years ago, which is set to expire in the summer of 2024 (Transfermarkt). So, if he doesn’t sign an extension in the coming summer, he will enter the final 12 months of his time at Stamford Bridge.

Subsequently, the England international would be allowed to speak to foreign clubs in January 2024 about signing a pre-contract agreement.

At the moment, a number of clubs in Europe have expressed an interest in Hudson-Odoi, who would be available for a bargain fee for the reasons discussed above.

Hudson-Odoi has less than 18 months left in his contract with Chelsea.

The 22-year-old is going to take his time deciding about his future and would rather focus on continuing to do well for Leverkusen till the end of this season.

But, given his contract situation, both the player and Chelsea would need to find a definitive solution in the summer. If not, then the Blues may risk losing him for free.
