Ligue 1 giants and Chelsea nearing deadline day deal for World Cup hero

French champions PSG are close to landing Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech

Hakim Ziyech has agreed to sign with the Ligue 1 side PSG who are in advanced talks with Chelsea over a long-term loan deal. The Moroccan is reportedly set to join Paris Saint-Germain (h/t ESPN), and the only thing left to do is for an agreement to be agreed between the two sides.

As a result of Pablo Sarabia’s departure to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Christophe Galtier’s side are exploring the market for a wide offensive player and believes the 29-year-old can fill the void.

Since Ziyech’s deal at Stamford Bridge runs until 2025 and the Moroccan has failed to establish himself as a first-team star. With his fortunes under Graham Potter not improving, a move away from London could provide the impetus of a rebuild.

The Moroccan acknowledged that he might leave Chelsea in the January or summer transfer window following the 2022 World Cup.

The 29-year-old joined Chelsea from Ajax Amsterdam in 2019 for £33 million after the club’s run to the Champions League semifinal in 2018–19, but his time at Chelsea has been unsatisfactory. In his 98 outings for Chelsea, he has 14 goals and 11 assists.

The fact that Ziyech shone in helping Morocco advance to the 2022 World Cup semifinals signalled that he would be reclaiming his form, but the player started just four games this season, disproving that notion.

Reports also claim that Ziyech has already given his approval to join PSG, who are seeking to close the deal well before the transfer window closes in January.

While AS Roma and Newcastle United were also said to be interested in the striker, it seems the 29-year-old will be joining players like Lionel Messi and Neymar. Clearly, he can do worse.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have bought Mykhailo Mudryk, and Joao Felix and the summer signing of Raheem Sterling who can play in Ziyech’s position would hinder his playing time. A parting of ways is the best bet forward for all parties.

Moving to PSG could help him revive his career and give him an opportunity to share the field with some of the best players to ever play the game. There is only so much Chelsea and Ziyech can offer each other should the association continue.
