Boost for Chelsea as USMNT transfer target rejects move to PL rival

Chelsea target Weston McKennie rejects move to AFC Bournemouth

According to Tuttosport (h/t Football. London), Juventus midfielder and Chelsea target Weston McKennie has rejected a move to Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

McKennie is said to be keen on securing a transfer to the likes of Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur or Borussia Dortmund. The Blues are interested in the USMNT star and view him as a reinforcement in midfield.

The talented USA midfielder has had his moments in Juventus but his time there has been rather mixed. He has the quality to play for a top club though and a move away seems to make a lot of sense.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for the player with Conte supposedly keen on making this deal happen. However, McKennie still remains an option for the Blues as things stand.

The 24-year-old midfielder had a World Cup campaign to remember. He, along with Tyler Adams and Yunus Musah ran the show in midfield for the US national team in their impressive run.

McKennie has shown he has what it takes to play at the top level. He will fit in well in Graham Potter’s side and add fresh legs to what can sometimes be an ageing midfield.

One thing that the USMNT star is very good at is long throws. This is a tactic that Potter & co. can look to exploit. It can emerge as a lethal weapon at times considering some of the tall players we have in our team.

The presence of Denis Zakaria and Christian Pulisic in the squad should really help McKennie. The 24-year-old has played with the former at Juve and the latter in his national team and they should help him settle in.

McKennie is a very interesting option for Chelsea. If his desire of joining the Blues is also true, there is no reason why we must not try to make this happen, provided it is at the right price.
