Graham Potter tells why he is ‘concerned’ after Chelsea’s 1-1 draw vs Nottingham Forest

Chelsea boss Graham Potter concerned at not deserving the win against Nottingham Forest

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t Football.London), Chelsea boss Graham Potter expressed his concern at the fact that his team did not deserve to win after the 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day.

Chelsea took the lead early in the first half when Raheem Sterling was alive to the loose ball after Willy Boly flicked the ball into his own bar following a fizzed cross from Christian Pulisic.

Forest came out firing in the second half and deserved to equalise when Serge Aurier found some space in the box in the second phase of the corner to chest the ball and hit his shot through the legs of Kepa Arrizabalaga into the back of the net.

Even after the equaliser, Chelsea could not regain control of the match and allowed the home side to create greater opportunities to nick the winner.

Here’s what Potter said after the game (h/t Football.London):

“Hard earned point, against a team that are set up well they put us under pressure second half. Our performance level wasn’t good enough to take the three points. We didn’t move the ball fast enough, not enough movement. But it would’ve been unfair to take the three points.

“When the game became a bit more out of control we suffered with the duels and struggled to deal with that aspect. It’s a tough game, Forest played a good game but we’re disappointed with our performance over the 90 minutes and concerned we didn’t deserve the win.”

In the last seven league games, Chelsea have one win, three defeats and three draws. The win came against Bournemouth a few days ago. It is not a run of form of a team that is touted to challenge for finishing in the top four.

Although injuries to key players such as Reece James and N’Golo Kante have not helped the cause, the squad has enough quality to beat teams like Forest (with all due respect to Forest).

Potter has his work cut out to find out a formula that can run this team well. At the moment, they look disjointed and not capable enough to forge together a good game throughout the course of 90 minutes.
