Chelsea told to pay £70m if they want 21-year-old South American star

Transfer News: Price tag of Chelsea target Moises Caicedo is revealed

According to the Sun (h/t Mirror), Brighton and Hove Albion won’t let Chelsea target Moises Caicedo leave the club for anything less than £70m. The Seagulls would also try to deter any club from making a move for him in the winter window.

The Ecuador international is eyed up by Manchester United and Newcastle United as well. Although he is out of the World Cup in group stages itself, the 21-year-old was one of the better performers for the South American side.

Caicedo arrived in Brighton from Independiente before spending six months on loan at Beerschot V.A during the first half of last season. Since this January, he has been at the Amex Stadium.

The 21-year-old’s contract at the south coast lasts until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). So, Brighton would be under no pressure to lower that price tag, coupled with the fact that the player has kept on improving in the last few months and showed his class on the world stage in Qatar.

With regards to his quality, Caicedo is an excellent passer of the ball from midfield, can drive with the ball towards the final third, reads the game well and has a good pace to cover a vast amount of ground in no time.

He made 14 league appearances in the first half of the season, scoring one goal, providing 1.1 key passes per game, winning 3.1 tackles per game, making 1.4 interceptions per game and winning 58% of the total duels he contested (Sofascore).

Chelsea are in the market for a midfielder, with the likes of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice linked. With what is available at the moment, the contracts of N’Golo Kante and Jorginho are expiring this summer while the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Conor Gallagher haven’t really taken their chances with both hands thus far.

Caicedo could be an option for that central midfield position. He has Premier League experience now, which would help him adjust to the surroundings at Chelsea. He has also worked with the current Blues boss Graham Potter when the duo was together at Brighton before the latter moved on.
