“For me it’s difficult”- Chelsea target makes strong Napoli claim

Napoli striker and Chelsea target Victor Osimhen focused on winning in Naples

As quoted by Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has expressed his desire to stay in Naples and win things amidst interest from Chelsea.

Back in the last week of October, Daily Mail reported that Chelsea scouts have been impressed with what they have seen of Osimhen in a Napoli shirt. The report also revealed that although the Blues are interested in signing him, it would be difficult to get him as Napoli would demand at least £87m.

The Nigeria international is a former Lille striker who arrived in Naples in the summer window of 2020. His current contract with the Serie A side runs until the summer of 2025 (Transfermarkt). So, we can see why they are under no pressure to sell their prized asset.

Osimhen’s record for Napoli has been nothing short of splendid. He has 38 goals and 12 assists in 76 appearances in all competitions since arriving in 2020.

If we talk about the first half of this season, the 23-year-old scored 10 goals and assisted three in 14 appearances in all competitions, including the torment he unleashed in the first half of match-day one in the Champions League against Liverpool.

Chelsea lack someone like him on their side, who can score goals but also be a menace for opposition defenders. And if that was not enough, the Blues have lost Armando Broja for the rest of this season after the youngster picked up an ACL injury during the friendly against Aston Villa last week.

From what we can decipher from Osimhen’s comments, it seems as if he is determined to stay at Napoli and win things. And who would blame him for that? The Serie A side is top of their league and have a very good chance of going deep in the Champions League this season.

For us, we can only hope that the 23-year-old is somehow available for transfer in the summer. If not, then the time should not be wasted and other targets should be looked at.
