Former African ace urges Chelsea star to call it quits at Stamford Bridge

Mustafa EL Haddaoui urges Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech to leave the club

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport (h/t Football.London), former Morocco international Mustafa EL Haddaoui has urged fellow countryman and Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech to leave the club.

Ziyech, who is part of the Moroccan squad that created history in the World Cup by becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-final, has been on the fringes of things at Chelsea since he arrived at Stamford Bridge.

The former Ajax winger has been linked with Serie A champions AC Milan for quite some time, while Manchester United seemed to have joined the race in the last few days.

Here’s what Haddaoui said regarding Ziyech’s future (h/t Football.London):

“Now we’re seeing Hakim’s potential, we can see what he’s capable of. He has a lot to offer. He needs to leave Chelsea and go to Manchester United, because the former Ajax manager [Ten Hag] wanted him. He will bounce back, but he needs to leave Chelsea during the winter transfer market.”

Compared to how things have been at Stamford Bridge for him, Ziyech has surprised a few people with consistent performances for Morocco in the World Cup. Believe it or not, he is now preparing to face defending champions France in the semi-final.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright talked about how the 29-year-old is playing with different energy for his country and is loving his performances (Mirror).

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane classed the winger as a ‘different player’ when playing for Morocco compared to what he is for Chelsea (Metro).

With what we saw of Ziyech during his Ajax days and now for Morocco, it is clear that the player has the talent and qualities. It is just a shame that things haven’t been the same at Chelsea.

It almost feels like the 29-year-old is not going to stay at Stamford Bridge after this month. Before the World Cup, he did share his desperation of doing well in Qatar to convince Milan of pulling the trigger on a deal to sign him. Irrespective of whether the Italian side comes or not, he could be off in January.
