According to Transfer Expert Fabrizio Romano on CaughtOffside (h/t Football.London), Chelsea are one of the several clubs who are considering a move to sign Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar.

Skriniar is out of contract at the end of this season (Transfermarkt), with negotiations for an extension ongoing. Despite the negotiations, he has been linked with a move to a Premier League club soon.

Romano made it clear that Newcastle United are not in the race, while Paris Saint-Germain are leading the race and Chelsea have been in and around conversation after wanting to get him in the preceding summer window.

Inter have offered a new contract and captaincy armband to the player. It now depends on him to decide what he wants from his future.

Skriniar is one of the top centre-backs around Europe in the last few years. The Slovakia captain has been at San Siro since 2017 when he arrived from fellow Italian club Sampdoria.

If he is looking for a new challenge beyond this season, Chelsea would be right to offer a deal. If the extension is not signed by January, rules say that foreign clubs can talk to the player about signing a pre-contract agreement. So, interesting days are ahead with regard to the future of the 27-year-old.

The Blues are potentially looking at a replacement for veteran defender Thiago Silva. The Brazil captain is 38 now, and may not go on forever. World Cup heartbreak may have diminished his appetite at this age to an extent. Moreover, he is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer (Transfermarkt).

More Chelsea News:

Skriniar can be an ideal successor to the former PSG man. The 27-year-old Slovak is a commanding centre-back who is comfortable playing in a three-at-the-back formation and great on the ball. If we are to offer a trade involving Silva leaving and Skriniar coming, we would take it.
