Report: Chelsea appoint 36-year-old as new technical director

Chelsea appoint Christopher Vivell as the club’s new technical director

According to Sky Sports, Chelsea have appointed Christopher Vivell as the club’s new technical director following his departure from German side RB Leipzig.

The 36-year-old, who was responsible for recruitment and scouting across all age groups at Leipzig in his native country, has worked as a first-team scout previously for Hoffenheim.

Vivell has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge for quite some time, so it will be a relief for the club that they have finally landed their man.

Along with Leipzig, the German has worked for another Red Bull club Salzburg as the head of scouting and recruitment. He oversaw the signings of Erling Haaland and Karim Adeyemi while in Austria.

During his time at Leipzig, Vivell helped the club make signings such as Josko Gvardiol, Andre Silva and more. We have seen how good Gvardiol has become in the last year or so.

Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly is happy to land the 36-year-old at the club and believes he would provide ideal support to manager Graham Potter.

The appointment of Vivell completes the club’s transfer committee.

As per Evening Standard, the appointment of Vivell completes a team of transfer committee the Blues were wanting to appoint. Joe Shields and Laurence Stewart, along with the Brighton and Hove Albion staff that came with Potter will form that committee. Vivell is going to be the technical director.

Since the takeover in the summer, we must say that Boehly and co. have worked hard on improving the structure of the club behind the scenes. Although the summer signings haven’t worked out so far, the chairman is expected to back the manager in the upcoming transfer windows.
