Chelsea and PSG battle it out to sign young Real Madrid starlet Rafa Marin

According to SPORT (h/t Express), Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are set to battle it out to sign young Real Madrid starlet Rafa Marin.

Marin refused to sign a new contract with the Madrid club last year, opening up possibilities for other clubs to make a move for him. He is considered a diamond centre-back in Castilla, the Real Madrid Academy.

The 20-year-old is desperate for first-team action, something he believes is not possible by staying with Los Blancos. He got discouraged when European champions kept on spending money to bolster their defensive ranks in the last year or so.

As of now, Marin’s contract with Madrid lasts until the end of this season (Transfermarkt). He is a right-footed centre-back who can also operate as a left-back.

He has played 15 games for Real Madrid Castilla this season, scoring two goals and was used chiefly as a centre-back, although played a game as a left-back as well.

In terms of attributes, Marin is one of the best defenders in the Real Madrid Academy in reading the game and making defensive interventions. He is physically and aerially strong while possessing good passing skills out from the back.

Chelsea did not hesitate in spending on buying top young talents in the summer transfer window. They signed the likes of Carney Chukwuemeka, and Cesare Casadei among others to bolster their youth team and also push the senior team.

It is all part of Todd Boehly’s ‘Vision 2030‘ plan where he wants to buy top young talents, improve the standard of the Chelsea youth teams and simultaneously have those players fighting for a spot in the senior team.

Marin is a quality young centre-back who can add a lot to the Blues’ youth sides. We have one of the best academies for developing talents. The 20-year-old can come and evolve his trade here and potentially become our first-team player in years to come.
