Young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei sends reminder to manager Graham Potter with a brilliant strike

Young Chelsea midfielder Cesare Casadei scored a stunning goal against Peterborough as the Blues youth side progressed into the third round of the Papa Johns Trophy and sent a reminder to first-team manager Graham Potter, per Chelsea’s official YouTube channel.

The Italian U21 international was signed by the club in the summer transfer window for a fee of around £12m plus add-ons. He is yet to feature for the senior side but has been impressive for the Chelsea U21s.

In eight games this season for the youth side, the 19-year-old has scored four goals and assisted one, including this stunning hit against Peterborough. This would certainly grab Potter’s attention and perhaps force him to hand a senior debut in the same manner as he did with Carney Chukwuemeka.

Not only has he been in sensational goal-scoring and overall form in a Chelsea shirt, but his positional versatility has also been well-used by the manager Mark Robinson.

Casadei has been used as a defensive midfielder, central midfielder and attacking midfielder. He has done well in all of those positions too.

The Inter Milan youth product arrived at Chelsea in the summer after having starred for Italy’s U21s in the European championship. Those who have seen him play would appreciate how attacking he is when his team are in possession.

It is well-known that Chelsea would be looking to make additions to the midfield department in the upcoming windows. They have an eye on a few of them featuring in Qatar, including Declan Rice, Jude Bellingham, etc.

However, Casadei has not harmed his chances of playing in the first team. Potter is generally not afraid to hand young players an opportunity. He has already done that at Chelsea by giving Lewis Hall a due chance.

Casadei has the quality and versatility to be a great addition to the squad. Will the manager trust him and give him opportunities post the World Cup? It remains to be seen.
