“Nowhere near the level”- Chelsea star self-critical about performances this season

Raheem Sterling is not happy with his performances for Chelsea this season

Speaking in an interview with the Chelsea official website as quoted by Football. London, summer Chelsea signing Raheem Sterling has revealed that he is not happy with his performances this season and has promised the Blues fans more.

Chelsea signed Raheem Sterling from Manchester City this summer and this move was expected to be huge for both the club and the English star. However, the winger has really struggled during his time at Stamford Bridge and has not yet set the stage alight.

Anyone who has seen Sterling play will know how good the 27-year-old can be on his day. However, such days have been few and far in the past couple of campaigns and the former Manchester City star has not really been at his best for some time now.

A fresh start this summer was expected to be just what was needed to bring the best out of Sterling but the truth has been anything but that. Sterling has been thrown around positionally too, at Chelsea playing as a striker, left-wing, right-wing and even as a wing-back.

In 18 games for the Blues across all competitions this season, Sterling has scored just five goals and provided two assists. These numbers are very poor for a player of the Englishman’s calibre and it is important for the Blues that the former Liverpool star finds his touch.

Speaking about his time at Chelsea, Sterling was very self-critical but promised that he would definitely be better and do more for the club.

“So far I’ve been nowhere near the level that I need to be but I’m sure that will come as time passes. You come to a new team, there’s different things that are going to be asked of you and it’s a different shape. I haven’t played in a back five for a while”

Chelsea will be hoping that Sterling indeed comes good with time. They paid a lot of money for the 27-year-old and he has to be their main man in attack. If the Englishman starts clicking, it is highly likely that the Blues start clicking in attack too.

With a World Cup not so far away now, it is highly likely that Sterling is on that plane to Qatar. He will want to get back into some sort of form before the showpiece event. If he can have a good World Cup with the Three Lions, the confidence will help him when he returns to Chelsea.
