Chelsea ‘closing in on’ signature of France and RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku

Chelsea are closing in on the signing of France and RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku for the summer of 2023, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The Blues have already completed the 25-year-old’s medical and the club have an agreement in place with the Bundesliga outfit for his transfer. The Stamford Bridge side will pay Die Roten Bullen over €60 million of the release clause.

However, while Chelsea are going to pay Leipzig a higher amount, the payment terms are going to be easier. Nkunku will sign a long-term deal and the transfer will be confirmed once the contracts are signed.

The 25-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain. However, after failing to break into the Ligue 1 outfit’s starting lineup, the forward signed for the German club.

Since then, the France international has been impressive for Die Roten Bullen. But he took his game to the next level in the previous campaign at the Red Bull Arena.

Last season, Nkunku made 52 appearances for Leipzig in all competitions. He found the back of the net 35 times and provided 20 assists. And the forward has continued his fine form this term.

Unfortunately, while Didier Deschamps selected the 25-year-old in his World Cup squad, the former PSG star was forced to withdraw due to an injury.

Chelsea currently have a number of options for the front line. However, the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Kai Havertz, Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic, Hakim Ziyech and Armando Broja have failed to find the back of the net consistently.

Thus, bolstering the attack is an evident priority for the Blues. Most fans have been calling out for a quality number nine at the club. Nkunku’s arrival at the Stamford Bridge side will definitely be welcomed with open arms by most fans.
