Newcastle United plan to offer a new contract to 24-year-old Chelsea transfer target

Transfer News: Newcastle United plan to offer Bruno Guimaraes a new contract amid Chelsea interest

Chelsea are interested in bringing Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes to west London in January. However, the Magpies are now planning to offer the 24-year-old a new contract, according to Goal (h/t Metro).

The Brazilian international snubbed rivals Arsenal and joined Newcastle in January earlier this year for £40 million from French side Olympique Lyon. Since then, he has impressed everyone with his ability in the middle of the park.

Guimaraes has established himself as a regular for Eddie Howe’s side and has helped them to get off to an excellent start this season. The Magpies currently sit fourth on the table, one place above us due to goal difference.

The Brazilian has started nine Premier League games this season, scoring two goals and assisting another two in the process. The Blues have been impressed by him so far and plan to get him to strengthen their midfield.

Newcastle are plotting to offer him a new huge deal to convince him to stay at St. James Park, despite the player seeing his current contract expire in 2026. Should the Blues be able to get him, he would make an excellent addition to the squad.

Conor Gallagher and Mason Mount have been impressive for us since Graham Potter took charge. Mateo Kovacic has also been impressive, with the 28-year-old getting on the scoresheet during our 2-1 win over RB Salzburg in the Champions League earlier this week.

Adding the Brazilian to this exciting mix would help in adding depth to the midfield and also help in improving its quality. N’Golo Kante, who has not featured for the club since August, sees his contract expire next summer and Guimaraes could be his possible replacement.

It remains to be seen if the Blues can convince the midfielder to join them in January. Just 24, the Brazilian could possibly play his prime years at Stamford Bridge and has all the potential to write his name in the history books of the west London club.
