“He needs to be ready”- Graham Potter hints out-of-favour Chelsea star could be in line for more playing time

Graham Potter hints that Christian Pulisic could be in line for more playing time at Chelsea

Chelsea coach Graham Potter has hinted that Christian Pulisic could be in line for more playing time this season. The gaffer also admitted that the American has been ‘pushing’ for a place in the starting line-up.

Potter, while speaking to the media was asked about the lack of game time for the 24-year-old. This is what the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager had to say as quoted in Metro:

“You can imagine my focus is on Chelsea. With Christian, I would say he has been fantastic around the place, been really good with teammates, and contributed against Wolves. He is pushing for a place, pushing for a start. Things change quickly in football and he needs to be ready.”

The American international wanted to leave the club this summer after he had grown frustrated under the previous manager Thomas Tuchel. The 24-year-old was concerned about his game time ahead of the World Cup next month.

Although his stance seems to have changed since Potter’s appointment, his game time has not. The winger has only started one game under the new manager, in which he scored to help his side win 3-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this month.

Despite that, he was left on the bench for the next two games in all competitions. It is clear that the former Borussia Dortmund man is very down the pecking order, although his performances in training are said to be encouraging.

Pulisic has featured in 10 games for the Blues this season in all competitions, scoring and assisting one goal apiece in the process. The 24-year-old will hope to improve his game-time in the remaining games before the tournament next month.
