Report: Journo names three forwards that Chelsea’s Graham Potter wants over Cristiano Ronaldo

Chelsea manager Graham Potter has three forwards on his wish list ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo

As per a Twitter thread by Ben Jacobs of CBS Sports, Chelsea manager Graham Potter has three other forwards in mind above the prospect of signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Co-owner Todd Boehly is still seeing a great appeal in signing the Portuguese superstar from Manchester United for the brand, having tried to do so in the summer.

Former manager Thomas Tuchel though did not approve of this signing at the time. And the latest is that a move for the 37-year-old will only be made if new manager Potter is completely in agreement with it.

Potter has forwards Rafael Leao, Jonathan David and Ivan Toney lined up ahead of Ronaldo in his mind. Leao has been a pre-existing target when Tuchel was in charge, while the latter two came into his radar later on.

Currently, Chelsea have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the leading striker in the squad, having signed him on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. Armando Broja is the backup option while Kai Havertz can play there.

The Blues have struggled for goals this season just like in the last few years. They have only managed to net 16 in 11 league games so far. For context, Manchester City have scored 36 in the same amount of games.

Now, City have a prolific striker who is even converting half-chances into goals. Chelsea, on the other hand, generally creates good moments but does not always finish the move or their number nine isn’t clinical enough inside the opposition box.

Aubameyang is an option and he did make an encouraging start, the Gabonese star is 33 years old now and cannot play every game.

So, to support him and also find a striker for a long-term purpose, Chelsea need to sign one sooner rather than later. January would be a good time to do so. And Ronaldo would not be a good option given his antics when he doesn’t start games.
