Transfer News: Chelsea facing a battle with Atletico Madrid for Belgian star

Chelsea face a battle with Atletico Madrid for Brighton ace Leandro Trossard

Chelsea are facing a battle with Spanish club Atletico Madrid for the signature of Brighton & Hove Albion winger Leandro Trossard, according to the Mirror.

The Blues had identified the 27-year-old as a potential transfer target for next summer. The Belgium international sees his current contract expire next summer.

However, the Spanish club have also now joined the race for the Brighton winger, with several other clubs interested in signing him for free next summer.

Graham Potter, the current Blues manager was the one who signed the 27-year-old at the Seagulls in 2019 from Belgian side KRC Genk.

Since then the winger has been a regular for both his club and country. But this season, he has been in excellent form and clubs across Europe are taking notice of the winger.

Trossard has played in nine league games so far for his club, scoring five goals in the process. He also scored a hat-trick against Liverpool at Anfield in his side’s 3-3 draw earlier this month.

However, Brighton are keen to tie down their in-form winger, while no deal has been reached between the two parties. At 27, the Belgian could play his prime years at the Bridge and would make an excellent signing for the west London club. He will also have the opportunity to reunite with his former manager at Chelsea.

Should he not sign any extension, the player will be free to talk to clubs for a pre-agreement in January. It remains to be seen if the Blues make any approach to the player in three months’ time.
