Report: Chelsea preparing a new proposal for PL rivals star

Transfer News: Chelsea are preparing a new proposal for Wesley Fofana

According to popular Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea are preparing a new bid for talented French centre-back Wesley Fofana from Leicester City this summer after seeing their previous advances turned down.

It is being claimed that Chelsea made a bid worth more than £70m last week that was turned down by the Foxes. The Blues are now set to return with an improved bid that could tempt Leicester City to sell their prized asset to Chelsea this summer.

Fofana is one of the most exciting young centre-backs in the world. Anyone who has seen the Frenchman play knows that the talented youngster is very fast and has what it takes to become one of the best central defenders in the world sometime down the line.

The 21-year-old joined Leicester from Saint Etienne in 2020 and quickly went on to become one of Brendan Rodger’s most important players at the club. He had a great start to life in England and enjoyed a debut season to remember with the Foxes.

The same cannot be said about his second season though, with the French centre-back suffering a Fibula fracture which meant that he missed the majority of the last campaign. He did make a return towards the end of the season though and played well for Leicester.

Just managing to make 12 appearances due to the injury that he suffered, the 21-year-old scored one goal and provided no assists across all competitions. A fit Fofana however is a different proposition with the talented centre-back capable of being one of Leicester’s best players.

Chelsea’s defensive woes are well known this season. Despite a couple of high-profile departures, the only player that the Blues have signed who is an out-and-out centre-back is Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. Marc Cucurella is another addition but he isn’t a centre-back.

The Blues have tried for other players in the market with two centre-backs heavily linked with the club Matthijs de Ligt and Jules Kounde but both those exciting prospects rejected the Blues to join Bayern Munich and Barcelona respectively.
