“Fantastic”- Former Arsenal star backed to succeed at Chelsea if a summer move happens

Darren Bent backs Barcelona star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to be the perfect striker for Chelsea

Speaking on talkSPORT (h/t Express), former England and Tottenham Hotspur forward Darren Bent has said that he believes Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be an ideal striker for Chelsea.

The Blues are in the market for a number nine. Romelu Lukaku has been shipped out on loan to Inter Milan, while the future of Timo Werner in our starting XI remains uncertain. Thomas Tuchel could be on the lookout for a striker and Aubameyang is said to be of interest to the coach.

Aubameyang and Tuchel are no strangers, with the German coach managing the player during their time together at Borussia Dortmund. And now Bent believes that the former Arsenal striker would be the answer to Tuchel’s question.

“[Aubameyang] would be a good addition to the squad. One thing we know about Aubameyang is that when he goes to a new football club he hits the ground running. He is someone who knows where the back of the net is. His goal scoring records are fantastic.”

Chelsea were inconsistent in front of goal last season when compared to ruthless teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool who seemed to be scoring for fun. The Blues failed to convert many chances which cost them some precious points. If Tuchel wants to challenge for the title next season, such inconsistency has to improve.

Take into account the number of goals the top three teams scored in England last season. City managed 23 more goals over the course of the league as compared to Chelsea, while Jurgen Klopp’s side scored 18 more.

The 33-year-old joined Barcelona this January and got straight to business. The striker scored 11 goals in 17 league appearances for the club. But with the arrival of Robert Lewandowski this summer, the player will naturally fall down the pecking order.

A proven Premier League goal scorer, he would make a fine addition to Tuchel’s squad. But given his age, he would likely be a short-term solution to the problem. Raheem Sterling has arrived from Manchester City and hopefully, he will help in increasing the goal tally for the Blues next season.

Armando Broja is another player who could have a big season ahead of him. The 20-year-old was impressive last season on loan at Southampton. A tall and clinical player, he could become the perfect target man for Chelsea. And given his age, he could be the long-term solution to the problem.
