Report: New Chelsea owners willing to sell first-team star for the right price

Chelsea owners willing to sell Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan at the right price

According to Blue Footy (via The Telegraph) (h/t Football.London), the new owners at Stamford Bridge have told Chelsea star Romelu Lukaku that he could leave to join Inter Milan in the summer if they are offered the right price for him.

Lukaku joined Chelsea from Inter Milan back in the summer in a move that generated a lot of hype and expectation amongst the Blues faithful. However, the Belgian striker has flattered to deceive, looking like the pale shadow of the beast that played for the Nerazzurri.

The 29-year-old striker has played 44 games for Thomas Tuchel’s team this season scoring 15 goals and providing two assists. Whilst these numbers don’t seem dismal on paper, Lukaku has failed to convince when it matters the most that his goal scoring has been extremely inconsistent.

The striker has been linked with a return back to Inter Milan just one season after leaving them and it has now emerged that the Blues are willing to cut their losses and sell the Belgian at the right price.

Match gone wrong?

The second coming of Romelu Lukaku was expected to be a pompous one with the Belgian expected to set the stage alight at Stamford Bridge. He had after all returned to the club a much improved player.

However, if the past season was anything to go by, this reunion has been anything but that. Injuries and Covid have not helped Lukaku’s cause as it has often interrupted his rhythm and not allowed him to get a regular run-out in the team.

At his best, the Belgian is an absolute beast and scores goals for fun. He can be one of the best players in the world in his position as he has shown during his time at the Giuseppe Meazza and the Blues have just not been able to see it this season.

It may be too early to rush into a decision with the Belgian. An injury-free fully-fit Lukaku could be the perfect striker for the Blues and be an answer to all their attacking woes this season, partially compounded by the man himself. Chelsea could be patient with their star man.

However, if the player wants to leave, it only makes sense to let him go. However, we must make sure we do the sale at the right price.
