According to The Metro, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he could put his faith in Romelu Lukaku against Wolves.
The Blues take on Bruno Lage’s side following a poor run of form that has seen them struggle in recent weeks. Wolves have emerged as a defensively strong side this season and Chelsea could have their work cut out if they fail to turn up on the night.
Chelsea’s attack has not been very clinical this season with both Timo Werner and Lukaku firing blanks. The latter however has come under the scanner given the transfer fee paid for him in the summer and also the needless comments that he made against the club.
Lukaku has played in just 23 Premier League games this season, scoring five goals and assisting one. The last time he played the whole 90 minutes in the league was all the way back in February. The fact that Tuchel has shown little faith in his star striker is rather telling.
The German however rubbished it in his pre-match presser claiming that Lukaku remains a top player. Actions, however, speak louder than words and it remains to be seen if Lukaku can make a case for himself against Wolves.
“We signed a big player, and he still is a big player.”
Speaking on the player, Tuchel admitted that Lukaku trained well and could be handed an opportunity to impress this weekend. The Belgian is scoreless in his last 10 league games and there is no better time than now to rectify that.
“He trained very well and maybe he starts tomorrow. Let’s see.”
The Blues are coming off the back of a poor run of results and have struggled to find the back of the net. If there is any time that the Blues needed their star striker it is now. Lukaku has an opportunity to showcase his abilities and it remains to be seen if he will take the opportunity should it present itself.
This could even act as an audition for him to start in the FA Cup final against Liverpool on 14th May. The Belgian international came off the bench against the same opposition in the Carabao Cup final and if it weren’t for the offside flag, could have fired Chelsea to victory on the day.
