Conor Gallagher urged to leave Chelsea on a loan deal or permanent move in the next transfer window
In conversation talkSPORT as quoted by Express, former Chelsea striker Carlton Cole believes that Conor Gallagher shouldn’t go back to the Stamford Bridge outfit next season.
The 22-year-old has been impressive in his current loan spell with Crystal Palace, growing in leaps and bounds under the tutelage of Patrick Viera. The Eagles have started to portray themselves as the dark horse of the Premier League and their 3-0 victory against Arsenal shows just how far they have come as a club in the last few seasons.
Gallagher has played a pivotal role for our London rivals, having bagged eight goals and five assists in 31 matches across all competitions for the Selhurst Park outfit. The youngster who has been majorly deployed as a central midfielder can also be used as an attacking midfielder or a right-sided midfielder.
During his professional career, Cole went on to play only 34 matches across all competitions for the Blues but managed to bag a respectable 293 appearances for West Ham United. This gives the 38-year-old ample experience in the Premier League for us to pay heed to his views and insights.
Speaking to talkSPORT as quoted by Express, the former Premier League striker shared his opinion on the current situation of Gallagher. He went on to state that the English midfielder should be at a club where he gets to play as much as possible.
“But for him personally, I’d just want to carry on playing, just carry on playing. I would stay [at Palace] yeah, I would stay. Whether it’s on loan for another year or you get bought. It depends what the scenario is. But I looked at him and I just feel he needs to keep momentum and keep on playing. Now he’s got into the England setup by going away from Chelsea so it’s perfect for him, it’s all set up for him.

The English professional also had a previous loan spell with West Brom where one could notice his potential but his latest spell with the Eagles has managed to grab more eyeballs and even managed to earn him a call up to the English national squad.
At 22, Gallagher still has his prime years ahead of him and could be viewed as the torchbearer of our midfield for years to come. That being said, the Stamford Bridge outfit already has a plethora of players who play in the same position, thus making it difficult for the English international to get the same kind of first-team minutes that he is enjoying at the moment.
This could probably stunt his growth and another potential loan move for the Englishman, thus, would not come as the biggest surprise for our fans. The Blues have in the past used the loan system to a great degree with a view of developing the up-and-coming talents in their squad. Armando Broja is another such player who has been enjoying his time at Southampton.
Conor Gallagher could, therefore, heed the advice of Carlton Cole and secure another loan spell in order to maintain his current trajectory. With that in mind, it would be a very unwise move from our club if we decide to ever sell him permanently in the near future.

The club faithful should be patient with Gallagher and only decide to bring him back if they have any concrete plans of making him a regular part of their first-team setup at Stamford Bridge. In all honesty, there isn’t anything concrete to suggest why he can’t make it in our first-team next season in a way Mason Mount did under Frank Lampard.
Jorginho and N’Golo Kante aren’t the youngest midfielders around and Saul Niguez was only brought in last summer on loan. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley, meanwhile, aren’t really preferred by Tuchel to start games on a regular basis. If that is the case, it would perhaps be a win-win for parties involved.
