Transfer News: Cash-rich European rival lines up move for 28-year-old Chelsea striker

Transfer News: PSG could make a move for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku

According to Football Insider (h/t Football.London), PSG could target Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku to bolster their attack.

Paris Saint-Germain are apparently searching for new options to add more depth to their attacking department. The Paris-based club have also registered a strong interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Pedro Neto. The Ligue 1 outfit could be looking to make some changes with Kylian Mbappe being strongly linked with a move away from Le Parc des Princes at the end of the season.

The French forward has become an integral part of their forward lineup already bagging 26 goals and providing 17 assists in 37 matches across all competitions for them so far this season. Should Mbappe depart, PSG could do well to add a few attackers in their ranks who could possibly share the goal-scoring burden.

Whilst the Belgian striker hasn’t exactly been a hit at Stamford Bridge so far, he showed his goal-scoring prowess with former employers Inter Milan. His exploits at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza tempted the West Londoners to splash the big bucks on the 28-year-old but he has largely struggled to justify that price tag until now.

Is Lukaku’s time at Chelsea up?

The Belgian international had a great start to life at Chelsea but has largely struggled to maintain any kind of form recently. The former Manchester United hitman has only managed a paltry output of 12 goals and two assists in 34 matches across all competitions for the Blues so far this season.

A good proportion of those strikes have come in the domestic cups and the FIFA Club World Cup with the former Everton man being unable to recreate the same kind of clinical finishes in the Premier League as well as the UEFA Champions League.

Romelu Lukaku has struggled ever since re-signing for Chelsea

His Belgian striker has gone down the pecking order and Thomas Tuchel has preferred to field out Kai Havertz as centre-forward most recently. The German international has been in great touch and has made a strong claim for starters.

This has seen a substantial decrease in Lukaku’s minutes and this could be a concerning factor for us. With the business end of the season fast approaching, the 28-year-old could get plenty of opportunities to make a substantial impact with the Stamford Bridge outfit before the end of this campaign.

Should he still fail to hit the mark consistently, the club could do well to cash in on him and cut their losses. Shipping him off to PSG, therefore, does not sound like such a bad option but we hope that he can prove us wrong by getting on the scoresheet for us more often before the season ends.
