Injury News: Reece James set to miss four matches for Chelsea following medical scan

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Reece James is expected to be out for the next four matches for Chelsea following a medical scan that revealed the extent of his injury. He suffered his latest setback during the 4-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League last Saturday.

James had recently returned from a long-term hamstring injury on his left leg, which saw him sit on the sidelines for two months. He was looking back to his usual best before this unfortunate problem caused further disruption. Fortunately, the new muscular/ hamstring issue is on his right leg and has nothing to do with his previous blow.

Initially, there were some fears that the 22-year-old’s setback could be concerning, to say the least. But Wednesday’s examination has revealed that it is not the case, as he would be out of contention for just the next four games. This means he will miss the remaining fixtures of this month and would return only in April.

Unfortunate blow

The initial reaction had created havoc among the supporters due to the fear of a relapse. However, that is not the case which would undoubtedly be a sigh of relief for everyone. That being said, it is frustrating to see the Englishman pick up yet another blow following his long-term injury.

The Premier League wingback had transformed our right-hand side when he came back into the mix with his quality. We were looking back to being at our best with the help of his services, so this update would be a damning blow for us. It is good to know that he has not been overly affected by the recent setback looking at his Instagram story.

The Blues defender wrote on his social media handle, “Patience is key. Everything happens for a reason. See you soon.” He must stay strong during these times to help him get through the injury plight that has affected him recently. Let’s hope that he can make a speedy recovery to get back in contention for us.

The England international will miss the league clashes against Norwich City and Newcastle United, the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 match vs Lille and the quarter-final game against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. Those fixtures are not the toughest we have faced this season.

The Canaries and the Magpies sit at the wrong end of the table, although the latter have shown improvements since the January transfer window closed. We are already Lille by a 2-0 margin, while ‘Boro, who may have defeated Tottenham and Manchester United earlier this season, are still one whole division below us.
