Chelsea sale could still happen if Roman Abramovich meets one condition
According to Football.London, Roman Abramovich could still facilitate the sale of Chelsea if he agreed to meet one condition. He has recently been sanctioned by the UK Government, and all his assets in England, including the club, have been frozen as a result.
Abramovich’s connections with Vladimir Putin has prompted the UK Government to take this stance. Putin, the Russian president, has recently declared war on Ukraine which is underway at this moment. The Blues have been frozen as well, although they are currently running due to a special license that will expire in May.
Abramovich had tried to sell the West London side before the sanction was imposed on him. The sale has now been barred as a result, leading to uncertainty over the club’s future. However, the UK Government could approve a special dispensation if the club chief agrees not to receive any monetary benefits from a potential ownership change.
Last chance?
Earlier, Abramovich had released a statement on the club’s website where he expressed his intentions to sell the club for the best interests. Moreover, he had mentioned that the club would not have to repay the loan owed to him, and all the money generated from a potential sale would be used to set up a charitable foundation for the people affected by the war.
If the Russian oligarch’s intentions remain the same, there would be no issues in agreeing not to take any money from a potential sale. That would be in the “best interests” of the club under the current circumstances, so let’s hope that he does accept that offer.
Failure to do so has many implications on the club, considering how several restrictions have already been imposed. Tickets and club merchandise can no longer be sold, which would seriously affect the club’s finances. Contract extensions and new transfer business cannot be carried out for the same reason.
Logistical restrictions have also been imposed on Thomas Tuchel’s side, which seriously restricts the club’s ability to manage the sporting side of things. For example, we are only allowed a maximum of £20,000 to meet the costs involved to travel to away games.
We can also only spend up to £500,000 to stage home matches at Stamford Bridge. The expenses involved to manage security personnel would have to be met using this amount as well, showcasing the heightened issues we are facing right now.

As such, we are hopeful that Abramovich would help in the sale of the club by agreeing to the demands of the UK Government. Whether the club owner would do that or not remains to be seen in the coming weeks or so. It would, after all, be a mighty generous thing to do.
Common sense indicates that the owner and his entourage would want to look for another way around this situation where they may have to give the club up for free. The Russian businessman has already quashed a massive £1.5billion owed by the club and anything beyond that would perhaps be asking too much from him.
