International manager hands worrying injury update on 25-year-old Chelsea star

Chelsea receive new injury update on Andreas Christensen as he may miss March’s friendlies for Denmark

Chelsea have received an injury update on Andreas Christensen after Denmark boss Kasper Hjulmand has addressed the defender’s recent setback. The centre-back could be out of contention for the two friendlies this month, handing further concerns about the degree of the problem he has suffered.

Christensen had picked up the issue during the Blues’ match against Lille in the Champions League round of 16 tie. Despite that, he travelled with his national team for the friendly matches in March. However, his trip may seem to be useless after all, as he could sit on the sidelines for the games against the Netherlands and Serbia.

Speaking to the local media via Bold as quoted by Sport Witness (h/t Football.London), Hjulmand has revealed that the 25-year-old will be ruled out for the first match against Holland. Moreover, he gave a worrying update that the centre-back’s injury does not look good at this moment and could miss the second game as well.

Andreas Christensen picked up his current injury against Lille.

“Andreas has not come, and I can say that it is very uncertain whether we will see him. He is definitely out of the picture against Holland, and then we try to see if we can look towards Tuesday, but it does not look so good right now.”

Worrying signs

Initially, the fans thought that the Dane could fully recover by the end of the international break, but that may not be the case. After all, if the central defender would also miss out on the friendly against Serbia, it wouldn’t be wrong to think that he would then still take some time before achieving full match fitness.

That is really concerning, to say the least, especially when the first leg of the CL quarter-finals against Real Madrid is set to take place on 7 April. His importance to this Chelsea side is clear, and his role after in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City after being subbed on for an injured Thiago Silva will not be forgotten.

Andreas Christensen still has not recovered from his setback.

That was perhaps the day that the Dane cemented himself as an icon in Chelsea’s recent history. He hasn’t had the best of times since joining from Borussia Monchengladbach, but things really changed for him since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival- so much so that he has been chased by the biggest clubs in the land including Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Following the latest update from the Denmark coach, the West London side should try and reach an agreement with the national team over a potential return for the Premier League star at the earliest. After all, he may not even play in the clash against Serbia, so it would be best for him to continue his recovery back at Cobham under surveillance.

We are still in the dark about an exact recovery date for Christensen, which causes concerns for the supporters. Despite that, we remain hopeful that the defender can get back into contention before our crucial fixture against the Madrid based club. Whether that will happen or not would need to be seen in the coming days.

Antonio Rudiger, Trevoh Chalobah, Thiago Silva, and Cesar Azpilicueta are the other centre-backs Tuchel has in his squad at the moment.
